Tips for you and your teacher when you submit:

*) Honka level requires only photos, in JPG format. Be sure to pay attention to the quality of the images.

*) For all written papers, please use Microsoft Word (.doc file) or Adobe PDF (.pdf file) file formats or hand-written/drawn.  Attach these files to an email to me -- DO NOT sent your work to me as the content of an email message.  I cannot do translations from email content.

*) After you have signed up to apply for the exam, please send me your designs one by one as you complete them so they can be worked on over time. This allows me more time to complete everyone’s patterns by the deadline. If you wait until close to the deadline, I may not be able to finish for everyone.

Please include in all patterns: 

• a) Mari size
• b) Size and type/brand name of thread (only if you know), and color family (for example, "Pearl cotton #5, yellow,” or "Kyo-temari thread, blue,” or “metallic lame, gold”). You don't need to include the exact color # because there are too many brands; it is better to mention color tone, such as light, medium, dark, etc.... Use a brand name of a thread if that is the only way to describe it (for example, "Kyo" thread for Kyo, but "pearl cotton" for any of the various brands of pearl cotton).
• c) Basic marking lines you used, and any additional marking lines, if used.
• d) Starting point (measurement or fraction/ratio measure) for the beginning of each pattern (for example, both up and down points when you stitch kiku).

You do not need to explain basic things like how to do the mark marking lines or stitch basic patterns; just write C8, S10, etc., or tri-wing, kiku, etc., but you need to explain about any additional marking lines used beyond the basic division.
